Vera Wang was born on June 27, 1949 in New York. She came from an affluent family and at an early age was exposed to the fashion shows in Paris. Vera attended The Chapin School as well as the Soborne in Paris. She also trained as a figure skater and competed in the 1968 U. S. Figure Skating Championships. Unfortunately, her career as a figure skater was short lived. Vera went on to graduate from Sarah Lawrence with a degree in Art History.
At the age of 23, Vera went to work for Vogue as a senior fashion editor. She remained at Vogue for 16 years until she was passed over for the position as editor in chief. Vera left Vogue and went to work for Ralph Lauren as a design director. In 1990, Vera launched her own design salon at the Carlyle Hotel in New York. She was now able to expose the world to her trademark bridal gowns. Vera's gowns became an instant success and sold to some of the most well known Hollywood stars including Jessica Simpson, Victoria Beckham, Sharon Stone and Karenna Gore.
Vera Wang went on to expand her design house to include fashion accessories, fragrances, jewelry, eyewear, shoes and houseware. Her fist perfume, Vera Wang, was launched in 2004. This fragrance contains a blend of Bulgarian rose, calla lily and mandarin flower. It represents Vera with its elegance and grace. Following the launch of the women's Vera Wang a men's cologne was introduced also titled Vera Wang. This cologne contains a blend of nutmeg and spice. Vera Wang went on to launch Sheer Veil in 2005. Sheer Veil is a perfume which contains a blend of champagne rose and lavender dream. The latest perfume designed by Vera Wang is Truly Pink. Truly Pink is a pink fragrance in every sense of the word. It contains a blend of white freesia, cassis, lychee blossom and pink rose. This perfume was designed with a blushing spring bride in mind.
It is no surprise that Vera Wang has seen success in all areas of her design house. She has managed to break past being seen as just a bridal gown designer to being seen as a designer of multiple facets.
