Marc Jacobs was born on April 9, 1963 in New York City. As a young student Marc attended the High School of Art and Design. In 1981, Marc graduated and entered Parsons School of Design. He designed his first collection of sweaters and received the highest honor, the Perry Ellis Gold Thimble Design Student of the Year Award. While debuting his line of sweaters a representative from Ruben Thomas saw this young talent and offered him a position. Marc Jacobs designed a ready-to-wear collection with Ruben Thomas and named it Jacobs Duffy Collection. Marc said his new collection was a, ?love of fashion and a commitment to quality.?
In 1986, Marc Jacobs launched his first collection bearing his name. The following year he was honored with being the youngest designer ever to be awarded The Council of Fashion Designers of America Perry Ellis Award for new fashion talent. In 1997, Jacobs and Duffy joined Luis Vuitton to launch a line of handbags, men's and women's ready-to-wear shoes and small leather goods.
September 2001, Marc launched his first fragrance. It was named Marc Jacobs and the perfume was inspired by the smell of gardenias in water. The launch of Marc Jacobs took place at Pier 54 and benefited a dozen downtown charities. In 2002, Marc received the award for Best Advertising Campaign by the Fragrance Foundation. During the fall of 2002 Marc Jacobs for men was launched. This cologne for men is fig based and proved to just as successful as the women's Marc Jacobs.
In December 2003, Marc Jacobs launched his home collection line. The idea was to bring fashion and high quality to home accessories. Following this in 2004 Jacobs launched his line of eyewear and in 2005 the full line became available to the public. During the spring of 2005 Jacobs launched his most recent perfume Blush. This perfume was inspired by the smell of jasmine blooming.
