Donna Karan was born Donna Ivy Faske on October 9, 1948. As a young girl Donna was exposed to fashion. Her step-father was a tailor and her mother a model. She attended Parson's School of Design for two years and left to work for Anne Klein. Donna married Mark Karan and had a daughter named Gabriel. Anne Klein passed away in 1974 and Donna became head designer. In 1984, Donna left Anne Klein and with the help of her husband launched Donna Karan. She wanted to ?design modern clothes for modern people.? Donna became known for her stylish pieces which could all be mixed and matched to create a complete work wardrobe.
In 1988, Donna extended her collection to include a less expensive line of clothing called DKNY. This line was successful and earned her several fashion awards. She also launched her line of fashion accessories and perfumes. In 1992, Be Delicious perfume was introduced. It contains a blend of cucumber, white muguet and apple. She followed this perfume with the launch of Black Cashmere perfume in 1994. Black Cashmere contains a blend of patchouli and jasmine. Donna went on to launch several other perfumes including Cashmere Mist, DKNY for men and women and Red Delicious. Red Delicious perfume is the most recent fragrance by Karan and contains a blend of green apple notes. It is a sweeter, fruitier fragrance which has been very popular.
Donna Karan eventually quit as CEO of the company but remains chairwoman and designer in charge of the Donna Karan line.
